Yes I Know..Where have we been?

We took a small break from recording in Mid July to play A LOT of music. Frankly it worked out to us working on our tans. But overall its good to get out of the studio and hit the road and see some faces. It also has helped us hone our skills as a unit before the last group of songs.

This week we came into the studio with 6 songs. We sat down with Fechino and well we narrowed it down to 3 songs with the band and 1 song with me and an acoustic vibe. Well alright…………….

I will say this next batch has a few suprises. One is the re record of one of our crowd favorites Honestly. I had my reservations about recording a song that was already a staple of our set but we did some really happening tweaks and who knows it might just be a bonus track or a give away. Its been so long since 2007 and we are long over due for a follow up record. Our Nashville EP stalled in 2009 because the sounds we got were too Nashville and well here we are now. Happy and ready to roll in 2011.

Two songs on the next group are completely new tracks. One is a co-write with Dan Fortin and Brian Fechino which has a distinct coldplay meets snow patrol meets Brian Jarvis feel. I really love this song and well I’m sure you just might as well. If you have been to our shows you have heard the other new song called “Runaway” a song that came together VERY quickly and is my favorite new song that I wrote in the last year or so.

Jim already cut all of his drums this week which means dan is coming in for guitars Tonight and well we are moving quickly. We will say that the record is expected before Halloween! Expect and announcement on September 1st with all the details!!! Can’t wait to share this with you all.

Thanks for your patience….

BJ

How to play 3 shows in 24 Hours

(Dans New Hair cut following the 24 hour mini tour)

( We all know we’ve seen this pic before, Sleepy Carl aka Jon)

(A View from the Alternate Routes Set! Me on Tambo, Eric on the tuning guitar)

(Sun rises over the New York Mountains.)

We took a small break from recording this week to hit the road. The road is what we saw most of the time for sure. Saturday kicked off a weekend of driving, sun and well staying awake.

Saturday afternoon we had the pleasure of playing Riverfest 2011 at Hartford’s Mortensen Plaza. Its an outdoor festival with bands located on two stages going all the way up until the night time fireworks. We hit at 4:30pm in the BLAZING heat of the summer. I always enjoy river-fest because the sound is great, and well people come to see music. We played our butts of literally sweating a combined person out of our bodies during the set. Our bass player Jon is so pale that he has to drink spf 100 to not get sun burnt. Poor Jim had it worst, Drumming is the equivalent of running on a treadmill for 2 hours straight in that heat. To make matters worse as soon as we got done we had to hustle all of our gear down to the riverside to get on the road. We had a show booked with our good friends Bronze Radio Return back in New Hope, PA! (3.5 hours west of where we are currently just finishing)

We hopped in the truck and headed west to pick our producer, friend and well amazing guitar player Brian Fechino. Once we secured techno, got some Dunkin Donuts in our system we took our lobster faced bodies to a great little town and amazing venue in New Hope called Triumph Brew. This place was amazing and instantly perked up the band. Also it made us right at home to meet up with our good friends from the CT stomping ground Bronze Radio Return. They made us feel right at home and the guys may be the nicest cats in the business. On top of it they are slowly taking over the world just you know and well they deserve it.

We literally walked in plugged in and played within 10 minutes of parking the car. We had a few Rock Boat friends show up and few people that we met from other shows we have played with other great bands. It was nice to feel welcome. Earlier in the car ride we had decided that we would scratch the song “Honestly” in favor of a brand new song from the record which well is so new we had only played it once.  3 songs in wouldn’t you know someone requested it. So guess what whenever someone requests one of our songs out of town we are going to play it! :).  Thanks for the request and the love!

Needless to say the night went very smooth and we got to sit back relax with a triumph brew and watch some amazing Bronze Radio Return music and make new friends. The drag of it all was that we were asked last minute to play on the Boston Rock and Blues cruise at 2 pm the next day.. Yes I am currently in New Hope 5 hours from Boston, Ma and its 2 am here. RUH ROH RAGGY

The band burn the midnight oil never sleeping a wink and drove from New Hope all the way too CT! We actually drove from nightfall to sunrise. Dan and I were the only ones awake when the sun came up in the car but I must say it was very beautiful. Upon arriving back to CT we power napped for about 2 hours then shifted to an acoustic act. Myself and Dan hopped in my car and headed EAST for Boston, Ma. It was another glorious day outside. Hot bright sun and well a good day to be in water. Unfortunately we were on the water instead.

We arrived about 1 pm to harbor port where the boat was docked. We were greeted by Eric (guitar player from Alt Routes). I jumped out of the car and well lets just says I drank alot of fluids in the car ride and had no time for small talk. ( I ran or slowly walked to the nearest restaurant and gave the bartender a buck! Nature Calls my friends) Relieved literally i was able to settle down and get on the boat. Let me just say that Alternate Routes and Adam Ezra are amazing musicians but also GREAT hosts. Starting at 2 the boat started to fill with eager patrons waiting to get on the boat, start tanning and start drinking! :)

Myself and Dan played a short 40 minute set to welcome people on board. It was quite the flashback to riverfest with the hot sun but honestly it was super fun because well  the whole time all i could picture was the scene in step brothers where will ferrell and john c reilly are rapping on a sail boat. We met alot of great people, got alot of sun and got to sit in with two amazing bands when all is said and done. I got to sharpen my tambourine skills! Who doesn’t love a tambourine man…

After all the music ended, the boat docked and well not sleeping in 2 days I must say this weekend was one for the books. Thanks to those who came out to the shows! To Bronze Radio, The Alternate Routes and Adam Ezra i’m too pale for these outdoor shows! But thanks for the memories and see you all on the road again soon!

Dan’s Report from the belly of the Goose…

Pardon me for a moment while I wipe the fig newton crumbs off my laptop…….

Ahhh there we go.  Nothing satisfies the appetite quite like a sleeve of the chewy fruit flavor that I get from a newton.  Especially when I’m hangin’ out here at Sunset Goose studio watching Mr. Jarvis belt out the vocal musings of a sweet lullaby.  And by sweet lullaby, I mean a killer rock jam!

As we approach the mid-way point of our recording process for this album, I can’t help but start to think back on all of the diverse-yet-delicious culinary nomnoms that we have consumed here at the Goose.  I’ve come to think of myself as a musical woodchipper, constantly plowing my way through the next great snack idea, hoping it will fuel me into an explosion of creative moments.

Turkey grinder with brie cheese, apples and honey mustard really brought out the driving grooves of some epic choruses in “She Breaks Down.”  I can thank that Whatchamacallit bar for some tasty melodic guitar parts in “Slipping Away.”  And I won’t soon forget Cinnamon Pita Chips for their tasty, inspirational flavors that prepared me for battle in the “Beautifully Broken” guitar solo.

As much as I want to thank all of the people involved in the making of this album, like my bandmates, manager, producer, etc., I can’t forget to thank the food.

Food - thank you for being there and keeping us from getting cranky.  We all know how an empty tummy has the potential to turn any stressful situation into a disaster.  You also taste delicious.

Now that we’ve almost polished off the fig newtons, I have to venture out to the snackery to retrieve a new source of sustenance.  What’s it gonna be this time??

-Dan
